The Power of People against Poverty, Nigeria

Demand more funding for the farmers who grow our food

Like other developing countries, climate change is hitting Nigeria hard, affecting small scale farmers who work extremely hard to produce nearly everything we eat locally. There is increased suffering from extremes in weather - with either too much rain or not enough - meaning small scale farmers can no longer grow as much as they used to.

With an increasing population but less food being grown, food prices are soaring, leaving millions of families at risk of going to bed hungry.

13 years ago, the Nigerian government committed to allocating 10% of the national budget to agriculture - but has consistently failed in providing funding that’s desperately needed by small scale farmers to tackle these impacts of changing weather on food production and ensure they can grow enough to feed their families and ours.

If we do nothing, food prices will continue to soar like our temperatures. We can stop this! Act now to demand the government to invest in the farmers who grow our food.
