Demand an inclusive economy from the South African Government
Build an economy that works for everyone, not just the few
IN SOUTH AFRICA, THE RICHEST 1% OF SOUTH AFRICANS HAVE 42% OF THE TOTAL WEALTH.
3 BILLIONARES HAVE THE SAME AMOUNT OF WEALTH AS THE BOTTOM 50% OF SOUTH AFRICA.
Such inequality is the sign of a broken global economy. Governments can change this. They can act to help everyone not just those at the top. They can build an economy where businesses pay their taxes and contribute to the wider good; where everyone is able to be healthy and educated, and where poverty wages are a thing of the past.
Inequality is growing around the world. Just 8 men now have the same wealth as the poorest 3.6 billion people. The 1% now has more wealth than the other 99% combined. The rules of our economy seem to benefit wealthy corporations and elites at the expense of everyone else.
But it doesn’t have to be that way. We can choose another future. A future where governments act to help everyone, where people are put before profits, and everyone is given a fair chance.
We need governments to listen to ordinary people, not elites and business lobbyists.
